At long last, Misfits Market and Imperfect Foods are testing banana delivery in select areas. It's a launch that was seven years in the making—trust us, shipping bananas is a lot trickier than it looks when your mission is fighting food waste. But after a lot of trial and error, we’ve just about perfected the process. Here's what to expect during our testing period.

Bananas will arrive outside your regular Misfits Market/Imperfect Foods box, packed separately in a special bag that's microperforated. Why? Bananas are awfully delicate and they emit a natural gas called ethylene that speeds up ripening, which can also impact other foods. Shipping them separately helps preserve both the bananas and the rest of your order. (Learn which other produce items should be stored separately.)

Using the color scale here, you can expect your bananas to arrive somewhere between a 3 and a 4—either slightly more green than yellow or a bit more yellow than green. They’ll ripen fully within 1–3 days stored outside of the bag on your countertop. (Check out even more fruits and veggies that don't need to be refrigerated.)

Shortly after your bananas are delivered, keep your eyes peeled (get it?) for an email about a quick survey to help improve our delivery process. Your input will ensure our bananas arrive fresh and flavorful for everyone.

Remove your bananas from the bag right when they arrive and store at room temperature. You'll be able to enjoy them for at least 3 days after they arrive.

Yes, really! When you peel from the non-stem end, it’s usually easier and less mushy. Monkeys do it this way for a reason.

It’s micro-perforated to make sure the bananas don't ripen too fast, but it’s also great for hauling big produce or stashing snacks on the go.

Simply head to the Orders page in your account to report any problems.

If anything in your delivery doesn’t live up to our quality standards, we’ll make it right ASAP.
As we test the best ways to deliver bananas, shipping them bunched helps us more easily measure how things go. In the future, we may explore selling them differently, so stay tuned!
